Now is an excellent time to pursue a computer science degree, while IT jobs are growing in number and candidates are in short supply. Enroll in a distance learning program and you can study for your new career without giving up your current employment.
More Computer Jobs: Fewer Candidates
According to industry analysts, 2007 is set to be a bumper year for people working in computers: more jobs, and less competition for them. After several years of stagnation, the some sectors of the U.S. economy are growing - businesses are expanding and investing in information technology, and computer jobs are increasing as a result.
At the same time, the supply of workers needed to fill these jobs is dwindling: the baby boomer generation is at—or nearing—retirement age, and fewer people are choosing IT as a career. According to recent research, the number of students who expressed an interest in a computer science major dropped by 70 percent between 2001 and 2005. It is not surprising that employers are having difficulty finding the right candidates to fill their jobs.
A Gap in the Market for Computer Science Graduates
While all this might create problems for employers with unfilled jobs, it is good news for anyone who is looking to get into IT. With the industry already experiencing a shortage of computer science graduates, now could be a good time to invest in this kind of degree; you will graduate with skills that are in demand and should have little trouble finding a job.
Distance Learning Programs
Can’t take the time off work to go back to college? Consider enrolling in a distance learning program.
Distance learning computer science degree programs are available at both the bachelor and associate level. Just like campus-based programs, they offer a wide choice of specializations covering all the most popular areas: database management, web development, systems analysis, and business management.
The future is bright for IT—enroll in an online computer science program now, and start working toward the IT job of your dreams!
